Cold chamber die casting machines can be used for other high temperature metals including aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium and in some cases stainless steel alloys and other alloys with a high melting temperature. The molten metal is hand ladled or automatically poured into the shot chamber from the external holding container. A hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder forces a piston to push the molten metal into the mold with extreme pressure. The pressure is maintained for a brief period of time until the metal starts to cool and solidify. The cylinder retracts, the mold is open and injector pins remove the cast from the mold. Prior to injecting the next mold, the mold is sprayed with a lubricant so the next cast will remove easily. Over time, much progress has been made in controlling this injection process. The current trend in injection is employing digital electronic system to control the injection process. Manufacturers like Visi Trak developed control systems to measure and monitor the position, speed and pressure of the piston, improving the die cast process.
